Frequently Asked Questions: Botox Injections

If it’s your first time seeking botox treatments, then our informative blog is a great starting point. We’ll be covering some of the most frequently asked questions about the treatment today, including what it is, what the benefits are and whether any aftercare is needed. Read on to find out more about botox injections, offered here at our Clapham Common aesthetics clinic.

What is Botox?

Botox injections are a popular treatment across the UK, and even across the world. Treatment is administered through an ultra-fine needle and helps to relax the muscles that cause facial expressions, which ultimately lead to wrinkles.

Why have Botox?

Also known as wrinkle relaxers, the treatment helps to reduce associated muscle movement and so creates a smoother, younger-looking appearance. Botox can also be used preventatively by targeting those muscle groups before wrinkles develop, a reason it’s becoming increasingly popular with younger age groups.

Where can I have Botox injections?

Wrinkle relaxers are generally used in areas of the face, such as between the brows; around the eyes; across the forehead; around the jaw; and in the neck. Botox injections also have some medical uses.

Does Botox hurt?

No, botox injections don’t usually cause pain or discomfort. It might be possible to use a numbing agent in advance of treatment to reduce sensation in the area.

How long does Botox take?

Botox treatment time varies between people and treatment areas, but it’s considered a quick treatment, and many of our clients have the procedure carried out on their lunch break, for example. Botox injection results typically develop in a matter of days, and last around 3-4 months.

How old do you need to be for wrinkle relaxers?

At least 18 years old, though we will never recommend the treatment to someone who won’t see a benefit. Both men and women undergo botox injections at our Clapham Common clinic.

What should I know about botox injections aftercare?

Botox injections can cause some sensitivity, redness, swelling and bruising, but this can be reduced through the right aftercare. For example, we’d suggest avoiding heat treatments, using sun protection and only gentle exercise in the first few days to weeks.
